Урок – дискуссиянатему: «Against All Odds: Life or Death»

Цели урока:
1. Развитие навыков критического мышления и аргументации.
2. Практика использования лексики и грамматики в контексте обсуждения.
3. Развитие навыков чтения и понимания текста.
4. Формирование умения работать в команде и уважать мнение других.

Регулятивные: планирование и контроль своей деятельности, коррекция своих действий в процессе обсуждения.

Ход урока:
I. Введение в тему (5 минут):
Teacher: «Good morning, everyone! Today we will discuss a very important topic: what would you do if you found yourself in a situation where you had to sacrifice your life to save another person?»
Student 1: «I think it's a very difficult choice.»
Student 2: «I would probably try to find another way to help.»
Teacher: «Great, let's now read the text that will help us better understand this situation.»
II.Чтениетекста (10 минут):
Teacher: «Open the text 'Against all odds' and read it carefully.»
Students read the text.
Teacher: «What are the key points you can identify from the text?»
Student 3: «Joe decided to sacrifice his life to save Simon.»
Student 4: «Simon was in a very dangerous situation, and Joe couldn't save him.»
Teacher: «Why do you think Joe made that decision?»
Student 5: «He wanted to save his friend, even if it meant sacrificing his own life.»
III. Деление на группы (5 минут):
Teacher: «Now we will divide into two groups: 'for' and 'against'. The 'for' group should argue that Joe made the right decision by sacrificing his life. The 'against' group should argue that Joe made the wrong decision by sacrificing his life.»
Students divide into groups.
IV.Подготовка аргументов (10 минут):
Teacher: «You have 10 minutes to prepare your arguments. Use the text and your own thoughts.»
Students work in groups.
Teacher: «For group, what arguments have you prepared?»
Student 6: «Joe made the right decision because he saved his friend's life.»
Student 7: «Joe's sacrifice was heroic and showed true friendship.»
Teacher: «Against group, what are your arguments?»
Student 8: «Joe should have tried to find another way to save Simon without sacrificing his own life.»
Student 9: «Joe's decision was too risky and could have led to both of them dying.»
V.Обсуждение (15 минут):
Teacher: «Let's start the discussion. Each group will present their arguments, and the other group can ask questions or provide counterarguments.»
Group 'for' presents their arguments.
Group 'against' presents their arguments.
Teacher: «Are there any questions or comments from the other group?»
Students engage in a constructive dialogue.
VI. Творческая работа (10 минут):
Teacher: «Now, each of you will write a reflection on what you would have done in Joe's place.»
Students write their reflections.
Teacher: «Who would like to share their reflection?»
Several students share their reflections.
Идеи:
- What other options did Joe have besides sacrificing his life?
- Were there any communication devices available for Joe to use?
- Could Joe have descended the mountain safely without risking his life?
VII. Подведение итога урока (5 минут):
Teacher: «Let's summarize today's lesson. What were the key points and arguments?»
Students share their thoughts.
Teacher: «Thank you for your active participation. This lesson helped us develop critical thinking and argumentation skills, as well as improve our reading and text comprehension.»

Write an essay on the topic: «Sacrifice for Salvation: Was It Right?»
